Product Name: Generic RDP (Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene Copolymer)
CAS Number: 24937-78-8

General Description

Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP) is a free-flowing, white powder obtained by spray-drying a vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) copolymer emulsion. It is designed for use in the construction industry to enhance the properties of cement-based and gypsum-based dry-mix mortars. Upon mixing with water, it redisperses into a stable emulsion, forming a flexible film with excellent adhesion and mechanical properties.

Typical Applications

  • Tile adhesives
  • Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS)
  • Wall putty and skim coats
  • Self-leveling compounds
  • Repair mortars
  • Waterproofing mortars

Performance Properties

  • Redispersibility: Forms a stable emulsion when mixed with water.
  • Film Formation: Creates a flexible, tough film upon drying, enhancing adhesion and durability.
  • Adhesion: Improves bonding strength to various substrates (concrete, wood, tiles, etc.).
  • Water Resistance: Enhances resistance to water ingress (hydrophobic grades available).
  • Flexibility: Increases flexibility and reduces cracking in mortars.
  • Workability: Improves water retention, open time, and ease of application.

Storage and Handling

  • Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry place (5–30°C), away from moisture, direct sunlight, and heat sources.
  • Shelf Life: Minimum 12–24 months under proper storage conditions.
  • Packaging: 25 kg multi-layer paper bags with inner polyethylene lining.

Safety Information

  • Non-hazardous under normal handling conditions.
  • Avoid inhalation of dust; use protective equipment (mask, gloves) if necessary.
  • Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed handling instruction.

Usage Guidelines

  • Mixing: Blend with dry components (cement, sand, etc.) before adding water. Typical dosage: 1–5% by weight of total dry mix, depending on application.
  • Water Addition: Adjust water content to achieve desired consistency; RDP improves water retention, reducing the amount needed.
